Avina Loreto, 80, Killed in Modesto Crash Near Morgan and Whitmore
MODESTO, CA (July 26, 2022) – Avina Loreto was killed after a DUI crash near Morgan Road and Whitmore Avenue in Modesto.
Police identified the 80-year-old Ceres woman as the victim of the fatal wreck which took place last week on Friday.
The incident happened when Avina Loreto was riding as a passenger in the back seat of a Ford Explorer stopped for traffic at a Modesto intersection.
At the same time, a vehicle was going south on Morgan Road just north of East Whitmore Avenue. Police said that car did not stop for a line of vehicles waiting at a red light in the area.
4 Injured in Wreck
In the process, the vehicle slammed into the rear of the Ford. The Modesto Bee wrote that both cars then struck two more vehicles stopped nearby.
The collision occurred on July 22 at about 10:15 p.m. at the border of Modesto and Ceres. Avina Loreto died as a result of the crash.
Three other adults in the Explorer survived the accident with minor to moderate injuries. Paramedics rushed them to hospitals for treatment.
Meanwhile, medical personnel took the male driver who caused the incident with moderate injuries. Police determined that he was under the influence when he hit the other cars.
They soon arrested for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI. The Modesto crash is still under investigation.
