Bicycle Rider Killed in Bakersfield Crash Near California Avenue and S Street
BAKERSFIELD, CA (January 4, 2021) – A crash killed a bicycle rider near California Avenue and S Street in Central Bakersfield.
According to the Bakersfield Californian and Kern Golden Empire, the tragic accident took place on Tuesday afternoon. Officers reported the collision at around 12:28 p.m.
Bakersfield police said for an unknown reason, a vehicle struck a man riding a bicycle in the city. The driver hit him near the intersection of California Avenue and S Street.
Bicyclist Hit by Vehicle
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found the rider down on the ground. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel soon pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist stopped and stayed at the site after hitting the cyclist. Officers forced the California Avenue to shut down for a couple of hours following the crash.
The cause of the fatal Bakersfield bicycle collision is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 661-327-7111.
