2 Killed, 2 Severely Injured in Bakersfield Crash on Highway 99 Near Hosking
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 4, 2023) – A crash killed two people and severely injured two others on Highway 99 near Hosking Avenue in Bakersfield.
According to the Kern Golden Empire and Bakersfield Now, the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck on March 4 at around 3:10 a.m.
The incident happened when a Honda, going eastbound on McKee Road, failed to stop at a dead-end for an unknown reason. The car then entered Highway 99 near Hosking Avenue in Bakersfield.
At the same time, Dodge pickup truck was traveling south on the freeway. The Bakersfield police and California Highway Patrol said in the process, the Dodge collided with the Honda.
2 Cars Collide
The Honda became fully engulfed in flames upon impact. Two passengers, a man and a 15-year-old girl, ended up trapped inside the burning vehicle.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and pronounced both victims dead at the scene. The female driver of the Honda exited the car and sustained severe injuries as a result of the collision.
At least one occupant of the pickup truck survived the incident with severe injuries. Medical personnel rushed the patients to the hospital for treatment.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, officers forced the southbound lanes of Highway 99 to shut down for several hours near Hosking following the wreck.
The cause of the fatal Bakersfield crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 661-327-7111.
