1 Killed in Bakersfield Crash on Highway 178 Near Lower Richbar Picnic Area
BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 19, 2022) – A car crash killed at least one person on Highway 178 near the Lower Richbar Picnic Area in Bakersfield.
According to an article published by the Kern Golden Empire, the tragic accident took place on Saturday night. Officers reported wreck shortly after 8 p.m.
The incident happened when two vehicles collided for an unknown reason at the mouth of the Kern River Canyon in Bakersfield.
2 Vehicles Collide
The California Highway Patrol said the cars crashed on eastbound Highway 178 just west of the Lower Richbar Picnic Area. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene.
Medical personnel confirmed that one individual died as a result of the collision. The name of the deceased party has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the eastbound lanes of Highway 178 to shut down near the picnic area following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Bakersfield crash is still under investigation.
