Woman, 83, Injured in Berkeley Hit-and-Run at Gilman and Tenth Streets
BERKELEY, CA (December 29, 2021) – A pedestrian was hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash at Gilman and Tenth streets in Berkeley.
According to the CBS San Francisco and KRON 4 News, the accident took place late Tuesday morning. Officers reported the collision at about 11:29 a.m.
The incident happened on December 28 when a female pedestrian was crossing Gilman Street at the intersection with Tenth Street in Berkeley.
At the same time, a vehicle was making a left turn from Tenth to Gilman. Police said for an unknown reason, the driver struck the 83-year-old woman in the crosswalk.
Driver Hits Pedestrian, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and found the victim left lying on the ground. She sustained unspecified injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel then took the patient to a hospital for treatment. The reports did not release name of the wounded party and her condition at this time.
Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the motorist did not stop to help the victim and fled the area. A Parking Enforcement Officer located the suspect driving on University Avenue.
Officers soon arrested the 58-year-old man who parked in the off-street lot of a hotel in the area. They charged him with hit-and-run causing injury, driving while unlicensed and revocation of parole.
Police forced the intersection of Gilman and Tenth streets to shut down following the collision. The cause of the Berkeley hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
