
Breanna Romero Killed, Kianna Hughes Seriously Injured in Watsonville Crash
WATSONVILLE, CA (March 5, 2023) – A DUI crash killed Breanna Romero and seriously injured Kianna Hughes at Holohan and Grimmer roads in Watsonville.
The California Highway Patrol identified the two women as victims in the fatal wreck which took place on Saturday.
The incident happened when 26-year-old Breanna Romero was driving a 2015 Hyundai Elantra with 25-year-old Kianna Hughes as her passenger in Watsonville. The two were going north on Holohan Road.
At the same time, a 2007 Volvo XC90 was traveling south. CHP said the Volvo crossed the solid yellow double lines and then slammed into the Hyundai head-on.
DUI Driver Hits Another Car
The two cars crashed at the intersection of Grimmer Road. The KION News and KTVU News wrote that the collision occurred on March 4 at about 10:22 p.m.
Breanna Romero, of Watsonville, died at the scene while Kianna Hughes, of Moreno Valley, survived the crash with serious injuries. Paramedics rushed the patient to the Natividad Hospital for treatment.
The female motorist in the Volvo and a man riding with her sustained major injuries as a result of the accident. Medical personnel took the woman for further aid while the man transported himself.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that the driver of the Volvo was under the influence when she struck the other car. They soon arrested her for DUI.
Officers forced the area of Holohan and Grimmer roads to shut down for hours following the wreck. The Watsonville crash is still under investigation.
