1 Killed, 5 Injured in Cajon Pass Wrong-Way Crash on 15 Freeway
CAJON PASS, CA (November 19, 2022) – A wrong-way crash killed one person and injured several others on the 15 Freeway near Highway 138.
According to an article published by the Victor Valley News, the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck at about 1:13 a.m. near Oak Hill.
The incident began when a gray sedan was going north in the southbound lanes and in the center divider of the 15 Freeway in the Cajon Pass. The car was traveling at high speeds at the time.
The California Highway Patrol said the wrong-way sedan then slammed head-on into a van near Highway 138. Several children occupied the van when the speeding motorist hit their vehicle.
Speeding Driver Hits Van
A tractor-trailer combination and a Dodge pickup truck became involved in the process. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived and pronounced the driver of the van dead at the scene.
A total of five people ended up hurt as a result of the collision. One individual sustained critical injuries and four others survived with minor injuries.
Medical personnel rushed them to the hospital for treatment. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the southbound lanes of the 15 Freeway to shut down near Highway 138 following the wrong-way crash. The cause of the fatal Cajon Pass wreck is still under investigation.
