1 Killed, 1 Injured in Calabasas Fatal Crash on 101 Freeway Near Las Virgenes
CALABASAS, CA (January 16, 2023) – A crash killed at least one person on the 101 Freeway near Las Virgenes Road in Calabasas.
According to the CBS Los Angeles and FOX 11 News, the tragic accident took place on Monday night. Officers reported the wreck on January 16 at about 9:10 p.m.
The incident happened when multiple cars collided for an unknown reason in Calabasas. The vehicles crashed on the westbound 101 Freeway, east of Las Virgenes Road.
Multiple Vehicles Collide
The California Highway Patrol said at least one car jumped the center divider and came to a rest on its roof. Firefighters arrived at the scene and freed at least two trapped occupants from the wreckage.
Paramedics soon pronounced one individual dead. Medical personnel provided treatment to another patient who sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, the cause of the fatal Calabasas crash is still under investigation.
CHP forced both sides of the 101 Freeway to shut down near Las Virgenes for several hours following the wreck.
