Fatal Collision Involving School Bus on Mussey Grade Road
Ramona, CA (March 29, 2023) – Carey Rufenacht, a 55-year-old man, died following a traffic accident that occurred on Mussey Grade Road, the San Diego Union-Tribune News reported.
On March 24, Friday, a collision between a 2003 Chevrolet 2500 and a Ramona Unified School District bus took place near Foster Truck Trail in Ramona. Preliminary investigation revealed Rufenacht was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet heading south on Mussey Grade. When the Chevrolet approached a curve, Rufenacht lost control of his vehicle and entered the northbound side of the road. Officials said the Chevrolet veered into the path of the oncoming school bus, leading to the head-on collision.
Our sources confirmed the driver of the Chevrolet suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. Emergency crews extricated the victim, then paramedics airlifted him to Palomar Hospital. Sadly, the patient succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased as Carey Rufenacht, of Ramona.
Bus Driver Hospitalized After Accident in Ramona
Authorities added the 48-year-old school bus driver was also taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Pending confirmation, the name of the patient remained undisclosed.
Further investigation on the case is ongoing.
