Hit-and-Run Driver Carl Hofstetter, 69, Kills Pedestrian in Redwood City Crash
REDWOOD CITY, CA (May 10, 2021) – Authorities detained Carl Hofstetter after a fatal hit-and-run crash in Redwood City.
Police identified the 69-year-old man as the suspect who killed a pedestrian in an accident which occurred on Monday. Officers reported the incident at about 2:30 a.m.
Police said Carl Hofstetter was driving a white cargo van when he struck a male pedestrian in Redwood City. He hit the victim in the 1600 block of El Camino Real.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found the man left lying in the middle of the southbound lanes as a result of the collision.

KTVU and SF Gate wrote that medical personnel pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that Carl Hofstetter continued southbound after hitting the pedestrian. He made a U-turn at Roosevelt Avenue, drove north on El Camino Real and stopped at the crash site.
Hofstetter exited his vehicle to check its damage, went back in and soon fled the area. Police located him and his van with front-end damage in San Bruno
Authorities arrested and booked the suspect into the San Mateo County Jail for felony hit-and-run and vehicular homicide. The Redwood City hit-and-run collision is still under investigation.
