1 Killed, 1 Seriously Injured in Pedestrian Crash on Castaic Road
CASTAIC, CA (March 3, 2023) – A crash killed a pedestrian and seriously injured a driver on Castaic Road near the Interstate 5 in Castaic.
According to The Signal and Hometown Station, the tragic accident took place on Thursday night. Officers reported the collision on March 2 at around 9 p.m.
The incident happened when the pedestrian was walking northbound on the shoulder of Castaic Road, south of the Interstate 5 Freeway over-cross.
At the same time, a vehicle was going north at around 30 mph. The Bakersfield resident began crossing the southbound lane of the road and entered the northbound lane.
Victim Hit by Vehicle
The California Highway Patrol said in the process, the driver struck the person. The victim traveled through the front windshield and ended up thrown back onto the roadway.
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene, north of Lake Hughes Road. They found the Tujunga motorist and the pedestrian who sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel then rushed both patients to the Henry Mayo Hospital, where the person hit died. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced a stretch of Castaic Road to shut down for a time following the pedestrian accident. The cause of the fatal crash is still under investigation.
