Chase Jacobsen, 24, ID’d as Suspect in Chico Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
CHICO, CA (March 6, 2022) – Authorities detained Chase Jacobsen after a hit-and-run crash that killed a man on The Esplanade in Chico.
Police identified the 24-year-old Chico man as the suspect in the fatal collision which took place on Sunday.
The incident began when Chase Jacobsen was driving a pickup truck south on the Esplanade in Chico. Police said he then struck a moped rider traveling in the same direction at the time.
The car dragged the moped for almost 2 miles before it became dislodged from the pickup. The Action News Now and ABC 7 News wrote that the accident occurred at about 12:39 a.m.
Terry Nilsen Jr, 22, Hit and Killed by Car
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene, north of the Shasta Elementary School. They found the victim, 22-year-old Chico resident Terry Nilsen Jr, down on the ground.
He ended up suffering from severe injuries as a result of the collision. Medical personnel rushed the man to a hospital, where he died.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid to the rider and fled the area. They soon arrested Chase Jacobsen for DUI and hit-and-run causing major injury.
Officers later held him without bail for vehicular manslaughter. The Chico hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 897-4970.
