4 Killed, 1 Injured in Chino Hills Wrong-Way Crash on 71 Freeway
CHINO HILLS, CA (March 19, 2023) – A wrong-way crash killed several people and injured one person on the 71 Freeway in Chino Hills.
According to The Daily Bulletin and KTLA News, the tragic accident took place early Sunday. Officers reported the wreck on March 19 at around 2:30 a.m.
The incident began when a white Volvo sedan was traveling north in the southbound lanes of the 71 Freeway near Central Avenue in Chino Hills.
In the process, the wrong-way car slammed into a black Volvo sedan north of Chino Hills Parkway. The California Highway Patrol said both vehicles spun out of control.
Multiple Cars Involved in Wreck
An oncoming Toyota truck and another sedan then collided with the black Volvo. The white sedan became fully engulfed in flames upon impact.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the wrong-way driver and three more individuals dead at the scene. At least one patient ended up hurt as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed the victim to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released.
Meanwhile, CHP forced the southbound lanes of the 71 Freeway to shut down for multiple hours following the wreck. The cause of the fatal Chino Hills crash is still under investigation.
