Christopher Moreno, 32, ID’d as DUI Wrong-Way Driver in Los Alamos Crash

LOS ALAMOS, CA (March 9, 2022) – Authorities detained Christopher Moreno after a DUI wrong-way crash on Highway 101 in Los Alamos.

The California Highway Patrol determined that the 32-year-old Clovis man was under the influence when the wreck occurred on Tuesday.

The incident began when Christopher Moreno was driving a 2018 Freightliner truck south in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 in Los Alamos.

Several collisions nearly happened in the area, south of Alisos Canyon Road, because of the wrong-way truck. CHP said two vehicles trying to avoid it then crashed.

The Freightliner continued and in the process, hit a 2015 Toyota Tundra head-on. The semi struck the car just south of the intersection of Highway 101 and Highway 154.

2 Victims Seriously Injured in Wreck

Christopher Moreno and his passenger, 31-year-old Squaw Valley resident Cody Serrato, sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash.

Paramedics took them to the Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. The Santa Maria Times and Noozhawk News wrote that the accidents took place on March 8 at about 7:40 p.m.

Firefighters at the scene rescued the trapped driver of the Toyota, William Platte, from the wreckage. An air ambulance rushed the 44-year-old Los Osos man to a hospital with major injuries.

Meanwhile, CHP soon arrested Christopher Moreno on suspicion of DUI. They added that 30 gallons of diesel spilled into the dirt median due to the wreck.

The Los Alamos DUI wrong-way crash is still under investigation.
