Woman Killed in Chula Vista Street Racing Crash at Third Avenue and L Street
CHULA VISTA, CA (June 5, 2021) – A street racing crash killed one person and injured several others at Third Avenue and L Street in Chula Vista.
The San Diego Union-Tribune and NBC San Diego wrote that the tragic wreck occurred on Saturday evening. Officers reported the accident at around 6 p.m.
The incident began when a Ford Mustang and a white Subaru WRX were racing on L Street in Chula Vista. The Mustang was traveling east in the westbound lane, approaching Third Avenue, at the time.
Police said the Mustang then ran a red light at the intersection and hit a Nissan Altima head-on. Two more cars behind the Nissan struck the Altima and in the process, collided with each other.
Children, Wrong-Way Driver Injured in Collision
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the woman driving the Nissan dead at the scene. Her passengers, two children, ended up hurt as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel took the juveniles, the wrong-way driver and the other parties involved to local hospitals for treatment. They sustained minor to moderate injuries following the wreck.
The names of the deceased and wounded individuals have not been yet released. Meanwhile, the motorist in the Subaru WRX fled the area.
Chula Vista police soon arrested the wrong-way street racing suspect driving the Mustang. They forced Third Avenue, from K to Moss streets and L Street from Third to Fourth avenues to close after the collision.
The fatal Chula Vista street racing crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information about the other street racer can call the police at 619-409-3817.
