2 Killed in Colton DUI Crash on 10 Freeway Near Pepper Avenue
COLTON, CA (February 5, 2022) – A DUI crash killed two people on the 10 Freeway near Pepper Avenue in Colton.
According to an article published by The Daily Bulletin, the tragic accident took place early Saturday. Officers reported the wreck at around 2 a.m.
The incident began when for an unknown reason, a Nissan Sentra had stopped on the shoulder of the westbound 10 Freeway in Colton. A Toyota Camry approached and then merged to the right.
Drunk Driver Hits Stopped Car
In the process, the Toyota struck the Nissan just east of Pepper Avenue. The California Highway Patrol said the Sentra rolled over and plunged down the embankment.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived soon pronounced the two occupants of the Nissan dead at the scene. Their names have not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that the driver of the Camry was under the influence of alcohol when she slammed into the other car. They soon arrested her for DUI.
Officers forced the westbound lanes of the 10 Freeway to shut down near Pepper following the wreck. The fatal Colton crash is still under investigation.
