2 Killed in Knightsen Pedestrian DUI Crash on Byron Highway
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA (September 5, 2021) – A pedestrian DUI crash killed two people on Byron Highway in Knightsen.
According to the KTVU News and CBS San Francisco, the tragic accident took place on late Saturday night. Officers reported the collision at about 11:14 p.m.
The incident began when an 18-year-old Pittsburg woman and a 16-year-old Oakley boy were walking on Byron Highway in the Knightsen community.
The California Highway Patrol said a 2002 Subaru Impreza then struck the two pedestrians.
Pedestrians Hit by Drunk Driver
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene and confirmed that both victims died as a result of the crash.
The names of the deceased parties remain unreleased pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, CHP determined that the driver of the Subaru was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
They arrested the 18-year-old Knightsen man on suspicion of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. Officers took him to the Martinez detention facility and booked him into jail.
Officers forced a stretch of Byron Highway to shut down for a time following the pedestrian collision. The fatal Knightsen DUI crash is still under investigation.
