Pedestrian Killed in Costa Mesa DUI Crash at Victoria and Placentia
COSTA MESA, CA (January 5, 2022) – A pedestrian was killed after a DUI crash at Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue in Costa Mesa.
The Orange County Register and My News LA wrote that the tragic accident took place late Tuesday night. Officers reported the collision at about 11:25 p.m.
Costa Mesa police said the incident happened on January 4 when a male pedestrian was standing on the sidewalk and waiting to cross the street.
A pickup truck approached and then hit him near the intersection of Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue. The car struck and knocked over a pole holding a traffic signal, and caught fire.

Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the 39-year-old man down on the ground. They pronounced him dead at the scene.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, the driver of the pickup ended up with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the wreck. Medical personnel took him to a hospital for treatment.
Police determined that he was under the influence of drugs when he struck the victim. They soon arrested the man on suspicion of DUI.
Officers forced the area of Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue to shut down following the pedestrian collision. The fatal Costa Mesa DUI crash is still under investigation.
