Crossing Guard Ashley Dias, Killed in Lafayette Pedestrian Crash Near Middle School
LAFAYETTE, CA (September 8, 2021) – A pedestrian crash outside a Lafayette middle school killed crossing guard Ashley Dias.
Family members identified the 45-year-old man as one of the victims in the fatal collision which occurred on Wednesday afternoon.
Deputies said Ashley Dias was working as a crossing guard when an SUV struck him and a child pedestrian in Lafayette. The driver hit them for an unknown reason outside the Stanley Middle School.
Ashley Dias ended up trapped underneath the car as a result of the collision. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and soon rescued him.
Crossing Guard and Child Hit by Car
Medical personnel rushed the crossing guard of the Lafayette school to a hospital where he died. The tragic accident took place shortly after 3:45 p.m. in the area of School Street and Paradise Court.
The juvenile sustained minor injuries following the collision. The East Bay Times and CBS San Francisco wrote that the child was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
Meanwhile, officers affirmed that the motorist stopped and stayed at the site after hitting the victims. The Lafayette pedestrian accident is still under investigation.
