Officer Injured in Collision Near Panama Lane
Bakersfield, CA (April 21, 2022) – A Bakersfield Police Department officer suffered injuries following a suspected DUI crash that occurred on Colony Street.
According to an article published online by Bakersfield.com, a BPD K-9 patrol vehicle attempted to turn south onto Colony Street from Panama Lane. Officials said another vehicle apparently drove into the intersection at the same time. The civilian vehicle ended up hitting the police car.
Authorities said the collision took place Wednesday around 11:25 p.m.
When medical personnel arrived at the location, they immediately rendered aid to all parties involved in the wreck. Our sources confirmed one BPD officer sustained minor injuries as a result of the wreck.
David Mendoza Suspect in Bakersfield DUI Crash
Meanwhile, investigators determined the civilian driver was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Per local news source, the DUI suspect was a 31-year-old man from Bakersfield, David Mendoza. Police arrested the man on suspicion of DUI.
