Bicycle Rider, 7, Seriously Injured in Davis Crash on Russell Boulevard
DAVIS, CA (March 23, 2022) – A crash seriously injured a girl riding a bicycle rider on Russell Boulevard in Davis.
According to the Davis Enterprise and CBS Sacramento, the accident took place on Monday afternoon. Officers reported the collision on March 21 at about 2:30 p.m.
The incident began when a 7-year-old girl was riding a bicycle eastbound on the north side of Russell Boulevard in Davis. She was with her grandmother and two siblings.
At the same time, a vehicle exited the parking lot of the University Mall and then headed west on Russell. For an unknown reason, the driver failed to see the child and struck her in the process.
Distracted Driver Hits Girl on Bike
Davis police said the motorist dragged the bicycle rider underneath the wheel of the car. Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene.
Medical personnel found the girl who sustained a broken leg as a result of the accident. They rushed her to the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento where she underwent surgery for her leg fracture.
The reports did not disclose the condition of the wounded victim at this time. Meanwhile, police believed that the driver was distracted when they hit the bicyclist.
Officers forced a stretch of stretch of Russell Boulevard to shut down following the incident. The Davis bicycle crash is still under investigation.
