Derek Gibson, 52, ID’d as Suspect in Rancho Cordova Fatal Hit-and-Run Crash
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (February 4, 2022) – Authorities detained Derek Gibson after a fatal hit-and-run crash in Rancho Cordova last year.
Police identified the 52-year-old Sacramento man as the suspect in the collision which took place on November 8, 2021.
The incident began when Derek A. Gibson was driving in the area of Trinity River Drive and Sunrise Boulevard in Rancho Cordova.
Police said for an unknown reason, his car struck a male pedestrian in the intersection. The Sacramento Bee and FOX 40 News wrote that the accident occurred shortly after 10 p.m.

Firefighters along with the paramedics then arrived and found the man left lying on the ground. He ended up suffering from a significant trauma to his body as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel soon pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police said Derek Gibson did not stop to help the man and fled the area. They described his vehicle as a dark or black-colored 1995-2005 Nissan Pathfinder or similar model, like the Infinity QX4.
Officers soon arrested Derek Gibson on charges of felony hit-and-run and driving without a license in lieu of a $75,000 bail. The cause of the Rancho Cordova hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
