Diego Mateo, 33, Killed in Traffic Collision on Ninth Avenue Near Spruce Street

Escondido, CA (April 3, 2021) – 33-year-old Diego Mateo died following a road accident that occurred on Ninth Avenue on March 26, Friday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Diego Mateo was riding a bicycle traveling on Ninth Avenue. In the area near Spruce Street, the bicyclist apparently swerved into the path of a Nissan Altima. The driver of the Nissan was not able to stop on time, and struck Diego Mateo.

Deadly Bicycle Accident in Escondido, March 26

The force from the impact ejected the cyclist. Responding paramedics attended to the victim, then transferred him to Palomar Medical Center. Our sources indicated Diego Mateo sadly succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. The Medical Examiner’s Office identified the deceased.

Meanwhile, the name of the Nissan driver and their condition after the incident remained undisclosed.

Detectives assigned to handle the case continue to investigate several factors surrounding the deadly bicycle accident in Escondido.
