SACRAMENTO, CA (October 6, 2021) – Donald Charlesworth Jr. and his son were killed after a hit-and-run crash on the Interstate 80 in Sacramento.

Family members identified the 63-year-old Sacramento man and his 26-year-old son as victims of the collision which occurred on Monday.

Donald Charlesworth Jr. and his son, Donald Charlesworth III, pulled over on the Interstate 80 in Sacramento after running out of gas.

At the same time, a green GMC pickup was going west on the freeway near the Madison Avenue off-ramp. For an unknown reason, the truck veered off to the side.

The GMC slammed into two disabled vehicles on the side of the road and ultimately struck the two pedestrians. The pickup bounced back into traffic and hit a westbound Honda Pilot.

2 Men Hit by Car

The CBS Sacramento and ABC 10 News wrote that the wreck took place on October 4 shortly after 6 p.m. The California Highway Patrol said Donald Charlesworth III died at the scene of the Sacramento crash.

Paramedics rushed his father to a nearby hospital, where he died. Meanwhile, CHP affirmed that the male driver of the truck did not stop to help the men and fled the area.

Officers described the man as a balding Hispanic with heavy set of tattoos. The suspect is about 40 to 50 years old and wearing blue jeans and no shirt.

Witnesses claimed that he cut through the mini-golf course and soon disappeared into the neighborhood behind the park. His passenger sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.

The fatal Sacramento hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
