Duane Adent, 37, Badly Injured in San Luis Obispo County Crash on Highway 101
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, CA (March 27, 2022) – A DUI wrong-way crash badly injured Duane Adent on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 37-year-old Atascadero man as the victim of the wreck which took place on Sunday morning.
The incident happened when Duane Adent was driving a 2016 Toyota 4Runner south on Highway 101 in San Luis Obispo County. At the same time, a 2016 Dodge Challenger was traveling north in the southbound lanes.
Duane Adent saw the Dodge approaching, veered but failed to avoid collision. CHP said in the process, the Challenger slammed head-on into the Toyota.
DUI Wrong-Way Driver Hits Another Car
The 4Runner spun out of control and rolled over several times, south of TV Tower Road. The debris flew and struck the front end and windshield of a 2016 Honda Civic.
Duane Adent sustained moderate injuries as a result of the crash. Paramedics took him to the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo for treatment.
The Tribune and Noozhawk News wrote that the accident occurred shortly after 5 a.m. Meanwhile, CHP determined that the wrong-way driver was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the victim.
Officers soon arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI causing injury. They charged him with driving with a blood-alcohol content of 0.10% or more.
The San Luis Obispo County crash is still under investigation.
