1 Killed, 2 Injured After DUI Driver Crashed Into San Jose Dining on Alma Avenue
SAN JOSE, CA (June 11, 2021) – One was killed and two were injured after a DUI driver crashed into a San Jose outdoor dining area on Alma Avenue.
According to the East Bay Times and KRON 4 News, the tragic accident occurred on Friday night. Officers reported the wreck shortly after 9 p.m.
The incident began when a male motorist was sitting in his parked white Chevrolet Silverado outside the Agave Sports Bar and Grill in San Jose.
Police said the man put the car in reverse and started backing up at a high speed. In the process, he plowed into the bar at 544 West Alma Avenue and hit three people sitting at an outdoor table.
Car Plows Into Sports Bar, Hits Diners
Firefighters along with the paramedics soon arrived at the scene. They found all three victims, a woman and two men, hurt as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed them to the hospital, where the woman died. The other two patients sustained non-life-threatening injuries following the crash.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties remain unreleased. Meanwhile, police determined that the driver was under the influence when he struck the restaurants and the diners.
Authorities soon arrested him on charges of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. His female passenger ended up unharmed in the wreck.
Officials forced the outdoor dining area on Alma Avenue to close after the DUI crash. The fatal San Jose collision is still under investigation.
