Vehicle Strikes, Kills Man on Hellyer Avenue
San Jose, CA (September 3, 2022) – A pedestrian died following a suspected DUI collision that occurred Hellyer Avenue, the Mercury News reported.
Officials said an unidentified man was driving a 2007 Toyota sedan heading east on Hellyer Avenue. For reasons still unclear, the Toyota struck three parked cars along the avenue in San Jose.
After the accident, the driver of the Toyota stepped out of his car and started walking near the westbound lanes of Hellyer. Our sources indicated a 2000 Dodge truck hit the pedestrian. The horrible crash took place Saturday at about 3:33 a.m.
Responding paramedics found the pedestrian suffering in serious injuries. Despite life-saving measures, the victim sadly succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. Authorities continue to withhold the identity of the deceased pending confirmation and notification of next of kin.
During the investigation process, the driver of the Dodge reportedly showed signs of intoxication. For this reason, police arrested the suspect and booked him into the Santa Clara County Main Jail on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and vehicular manslaughter.
Detectives continue to gather additional information on the fatal accident that happened on Hellyer Avenue in San Jose.
