Bicyclist Killed in East Bakersfield Hit-and-Run Crash on Pearl Street
EAST BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 7, 2022) – A bicyclist was killed after a hit-and-run crash on Pearl Street in East Bakersfield
According to the Kern Golden Empire and Bakersfield Now, the tragic accident took place on Monday morning. Officers reported the collision shortly before 8 a.m.
The incident happened on August 1 when a man in his 40s was riding a bicycle west in the alleyway in East Bakersfield. For an unknown reason, a vehicle struck him.
Driver Hits Man, Flees Scene
Police said the driver hit the cyclist in the 1200 block of Pearl Street near Robinson Street. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and found the rider down in the alley.
Medical personnel soon pronounced him dead at the scene. The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist did not stop to render aid to the bicyclist and fled the area. Officers forced a stretch of Pearl Street to shut down for a time following the incident.
The fatal East Bakersfield hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the CHP’s Bakersfield office at 661-396-6600.
