2 Injured in El Cajon Hit-and-Run Crash on Jamacha Road Near Main Street
EL CAJON, CA (March 30, 2021) – Two were hospitalized after a hit-and-run crash along Jamacha Road in El Cajon.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune and FOX 5 News, the accident occurred on Tuesday evening. Officers reported the wreck at about 5:40 p.m.
The incident happened when a tow truck was hauling two vehicles south on Jamacha Road, just south of Main Street, in El Cajon. For an unknown reason, its driver made a sudden turn.
Police said the tow truck struck another southbound vehicle. The truck then slammed into a stand of palm trees outside an East County apartment complex.
Tow Truck Driver Hits Car, Flees Scene
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene. They found two adult occupants of the victim vehicle who ended up hurt as a result of the collision.
Medical personnel rushed them to hospitals with significant injuries. Officials did not release the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the tow truck driver abandoned the truck and fled on foot. The suspect returned to the crash site and was transported for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Police soon took the driver into custody on suspicion of hit-and-run. They closed both the north and southbound lanes of Jamacha Road between Main and Lexington Avenue following the collision.
