Woman, Child Injured in Collision on Highway 99
Keyes, CA (May 2, 2023) – Erica Armenta, and a 2-year-old girl suffered injuries following a suspected DUI collision that occurred on State Route Highway 99.
The Ceres Courier News reported a 2000 Chevy SUV crashed into the back of a 2019 Mercedes. According to the article published online, 26-year-old Christopher Frias was behind the wheel of the Chevy heading south in the middle lane of the highway. As the Chevy approached the Keyes Road overpass, Frias allegedly made an unsafe lane change and ended up slamming into the back of the Mercedes.
Officials said the accident took place Saturday evening, April 29.
Shortly after 9:58 p.m., emergency crews arrived at the location and found the Chevy overturned in the center median of SR-99. The force from the impact ejected front seat passenger Erica Armenta, 27-year-old; and the rear seat passenger, a 2-year-old girl. Both passengers sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. A helicopter airlifted the juvenile to U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, while Armenta was taken to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto.
DUI Suspect Arrested in Keyes Car Accident
Authorities said Christopher Frias showed signs of intoxication during the investigation process. Given that, the California Highway Patrol arrested and booked the suspect into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for felony DUI; felony child endangerment; and a misdemeanor of being an unlicensed driver.
Further investigation on the case is underway.
