Erick Arambula, 23, ID’d as Suspect in Fallbrook Fatal DUI Crash
FALLBROOK, CA (April 24, 2023) – Authorities detained Erick Arambula after a DUI crash that killed two people on the Interstate 15 in Fallbrook.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 23-year-old Oceanside man was under the influence when the fatal accident occurred on Sunday.
The incident began when Erick Arambula was driving a white Toyota Tacoma north on Old Highway 395 near Fallbrook. His car swerved onto the right shoulder of the road and slammed into a chain link fence.
The pickup crashed through the fence, plunged down an embankment and into southbound lanes of the Interstate 15. A black Kia Forte and a white Tesla Model 3 were going south on the Interstate at the time.
CHP said the truck then hit the Kia and the Tesla head-on. The three cars collided just north of state Route 76 near Pala Mesa and Bonsall.
Mother and Child Killed in Wreck
One vehicle rolled over due to the impact of the collision and came to a stop on its roof. The San Diego Union Tribune and NBC San Diego wrote the wreck took place on April 23 shortly after 3:10 p.m.
The driver of the Forte, 29-year-old Courteney Taylor and her child, a 4-year-old girl, died at the scene. Both were Oceanside residents.
The reports added that three people riding the Tesla sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident. Paramedics rushed them to a hospital for further aid.
Meanwhile, CHP confirmed that Erick Arambula survived the crash with major injuries. Medical personnel transported him for treatment.
Officers soon arrested Erick Arambula on suspicion of multiple felonies, including DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter. The Fallbrook DUI crash is still under investigation.
