Police Officer, Prisoner Hurt in Collision on SR-41
Fresno, CA (May 15, 2023) – A Fresno police officer and a prisoner in his car suffered injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on State Route Highway 41 early Saturday, May 13.
The Fresno Bee News reported two Fresno patrol cars stopped along the northbound side of SR-41 near McKinley Avenue. Preliminary investigation revealed one patrol vehicle stopped on the shoulder of the highway, while the second police car stopped in the right lane with emergency lights activated.
Several officers were apprehending a suspect when a a passing Hyundai Santa Fe sideswiped the patrol vehicle on the shoulder. Subsequently, the Hyundai slammed into the second police car.
According to the article published online, the force from the impact knocked an officer to the ground. Authorities added the collision also resulted in injuries to the prisoner inside the police car. Responding paramedics attended to the two victims, and later confirmed both parties sustained minor injuries.
DUI Suspect Arrested After Injury Crash in Fresno
Traffic backed up along SR-41 after the incident. Officers shut down a portion of the highway to give way to the investigation process. Police later determined the driver of the Hyundai was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Given that, police arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI.
At this time, detectives continue to investigate several unclear factors surrounding the multi-vehicle accident that happened on Highway 41 in Fresno.
