1 Killed, 3 Injured in Fresno Crash on Highway 99 Near Herndon Avenue
FRESNO, CA (October 3, 2021) – A crash killed one person and injured three others on Highway 99 near Herndon Avenue in Fresno.
According to The Fresno Bee and ABC 30 News, the tragic accident took place early Sunday. Officers reported the wreck at about 2:19 a.m.
The incident began when a collision happened on northbound Highway 99, just south of Herndon Avenue, in Fresno. A gray Hyundai Sonata ended up blocking the No. 2 lane.
A Toyota Camry stopped on the right shoulder in an attempt to help the motorist involved. At the same time, a white Isuzu box truck was traveling in the No. 2 lane.
The box truck approached the Hyundai, veered to the right, into lane No. 3 and then onto the shoulder. In the process, the truck hit the rear of the Toyota.
Box Truck and Car Collide
The impact forced the Camry onto the dirt shoulder. The California Highway Patrol said the box truck continued and rolled onto its left side.
Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and confirmed that the driver of the truck, a man in his 30s, died as a result of the collision.
Two other occupants of the truck and a passenger in the Camry sustained moderate injuries. Medical personnel soon took them to the Community Regional Medical Center for treatment.
The names of the deceased and wounded parties have not been yet released. Meanwhile, CHP forced the northbound lanes of Highway 99 to shut down for two hours near Herndon following the wreck.
The cause of fatal Fresno crash is still under investigation.
