Garret Caouette, 28, Killed in Temecula Crash on 15 Freeway
TEMECULA, CA (April 29, 2021) – Garret Caouette was killed after a DUI crash on the Interstate 15 Freeway in Temecula.
A GoFundMe page identified the 18-year-old Murrieta man as the victim of the fatal accident which occurred last week on Thursday.
The incident happened when Garret Gabriel Caouette was driving a 2015 Toyota Prius south on the 15 Freeway in Temecula. He was traveling behind a big rig at the time.
The tractor-trailer then slowed for traffic ahead, just south of Overland Drive. In the process, Garret Caouette came to a stop.
The California Highway Patrol said a box truck behind the Toyota failed to slow down and slammed into the rear of the sedan. Both the box truck and the Prius became engulfed in flames upon impact.
Kevin May, 47, Arrested For DUI
The burning car ended up pinned between the other two vehicles. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced Caouette dead at the scene.
The Daily Bulletin and My News LA reported the wreck on April 22 at about 12:30 p.m. The 47-year-old Bloomington woman operating the semi-truck did not sustain any injury as a result of the collision.
The male driver of the box truck suffered moderate injuries. Medical personnel took him to the Inland Valley Regional Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that the man was under the influence of a drug when he hit the Toyota. They named him as 47-year-old Fontana resident Kevin May.
Authorities soon arrested and charged him with murder and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. The tragic Temecula DUI crash is still under investigation.
