Gina Mendoza Santos, 38, Seriously Injured in Merced County Crash on Highway 59
MERCED COUNTY, CA (June 9, 2021) – A car crash seriously injured Gina Mendoza Santos on Highway 59 in Merced County.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 38-year-old woman as the victim of the wreck which occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened on June 8 when Gina Mendoza Santos was driving a 2015 Toyota Camry south Highway 59 in Merced County. At the same time, a big rig was going north.
The operator of the truck, 54-year-old Jesus Barboza, crossed the center line for an unknown reason. The Fresno man then slammed head-on into the sedan, south of Sandy Mush Road.
Big Rig Crashes Head-On Into Car
Gina Mendoza Santos ended up trapped inside her severely damaged car as a result of the crash. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived at the scene and soon extricated her from the wreckage.
An air ambulance took her to the Doctors Medical Center in Modesto for treatment of major injuries. The Fresno Bee wrote that the accident took place at about 2:20 p.m.
Meanwhile, CHP said Jesus Barboza complained of pain following the wreck. Officers added that the big rig driver did not require transport to the hospital.
Authorities are still determining the cause of the Merced County crash.
