Motorcyclist, 41, Killed in Grass Valley Crash on Rough and Ready Highway
GRASS VALLEY, CA (November 11, 2022) – A DUI crash killed a motorcyclist on Rough and Ready Highway in Grass Valley.
According to The Union and FOX 40 News, the tragic accident took place late Thursday night. Officers reported the wreck on November 10 shortly after 10 p.m.
The incident began when a rider of the 2004 Suzuki GSX R1000 was going west on Rough and Ready Highway toward West Drive in Grass Valley.
A 2001 GMC Sierra was traveling at a high rate of speed in the same direction at the time. The California Highway Patrol said the car then struck the rear of the motorcycle.
The 41-year-old Nevada County man ended up ejected from the Suzuki onto the ground. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the collision.
Drunk Driver Hits Rider
An air ambulance flew the victim to a hospital, where he died. His name has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin.
CHP added that the GMC veered to the left, plowed into the front yard and the front living room of the unoccupied home. The speeding motorist survived the incident with minor injuries.
Paramedics rushed him to a hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, officers determined that the driver of the Sierra was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the motorcyclist.
They soon arrested him for DUI. Officers forced a stretch of Rough and Ready Highway to shut down for a time following the wreck.
The cause of the fatal Grass Valley crash is still under investigation.
