Police Officer Seriously Injured in Crash at 120th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard
HAWTHORNE, CA (August 26, 2022) – A police officer was seriously injured after a crash at 120th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard in the city.
According to The Daily Bulletin and CBS Los Angeles, the accident took place early Friday. Officers reported the wreck shortly after 2:45 a.m.
The incident began when a Chevrolet Monte Carlo was traveling at a high rate of speed north on Hawthorne Boulevard, approaching 120th Street.
At the same time, a Hawthorne police officer in an SUV was going west on 120th Street. The Chevrolet ran a red light at the intersection and slammed into the patrol car.
Speeding Driver Hits Patrol Car
The police officer sustained major injuries as a result of the collision. Paramedics arrived and rushed him to a hospital for treatment.
Medical personnel took the speeding driver who survived the incident with non-life threatening injuries. The report did not disclose the names of the wounded parties and their condition at this time.
Meanwhile, records showed that the suspect has an outstanding arrest warrant in Vernon and parole violation charge. The crash is still under investigation.
Officers forced the area of 120th Street and Hawthorne Boulevard to shut down following the wreck. Anyone with information can call the police at 310- 349-2700.
