Fatal Collision at Gates Road and Highway 132
Modesto, CA (June 16, 2022) – Helen Byers, a 78-year-old woman, died following a car accident that occurred in the area of Gates Road and Highway 132.
The Modesto Bee News reported Byers was behind the wheel of a vehicle heading south on Gates Road on June 14, Tuesday. Preliminary investigation revealed the woman stopped at a stop sign as she approached the intersection at Highway 132. When Byers proceeded into the, a westbound vehicle drove through at the same time and hit her.
According to the article published online, the force from the impact pushed the car of Byer out of the roadway. The car ended up rolling down a canal that runs parallel to Gates and Paradise Road. Officials said the vehicle ended up fully submerged in the canal.
Woman Dies at Hospital After Car Accident in Modesto
Responding emergency crews found passersby trying to save Byers. After the woman was pulled out of the water, paramedics performed CPR to the woman. An ambulance rushed Helen Byers to the hospital, where she later sadly died.
Meanwhile, the driver of the other car sustained minor injuries as a result of the wreck.
Detectives continue to work at this time to determine several unclear factors surrounding the deadly collision at Gates Road and Highway 132 in Modesto.
