James Duncan Harrell, 24, Killed in Plane Crash Near Truckee
TRUCKEE, CA (June 17, 2021) — James Duncan Harrell was killed after a plane crash in the Martis Valley near Truckee.
The Placer County Sheriff’s Office identified the 24-year-old Sacramento man as the pilot of the Cirrus SR20 involved in the accident on Tuesday.
Deputies said the aircraft went down on June 15 after its departure from the Truckee-Tahoe Airport for an unknown reason. The plane’s emergency parachute deployed in the incident.
Small Plane Crashes in Martis Valley
The small plane operated by James Duncan Harrell crashed southwest of the airport in the Martis Camp area. CBS Sacramento and KCRA News wrote that the accident occurred shortly before 11 a.m.
Officials confirmed that James Duncan Harrell died as a result of the plane crash. Another person on board the aircraft sustained unspecified injuries and survived the incident.
Officers did not release the name of the wounded passenger and their condition at this time. Meanwhile, the accident took place along the Snowshoe Thompson Circle.
The fatal Truckee plane crash is still under investigation.
