2 Hurt in Collision on Highway 98 Near State Route 7
Calexico, CA (September 14, 2022) – Janet Coronado, and Daniel Emmanuel Aldrete both suffered injuries following a traffic accident that occurred on Highway 98.
Auto vs. Big Rig Accident in Calexico
According to KXO News, a passenger vehicle and a tractor-trailer rig collided on the highway just east of State Route 7. Earlier reports indicated the car was heading west on SR-98, while the truck was heading north on SR-7. Officials believed the two automobiles drove through the intersection at the same time, leading to the crash.
Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after 1 a.m. When rescue teams arrived, they found the car lodged underneath the truck. Firefighters worked extensively to extricate the driver, 36-year-old Daniel Emmanuel Aldrete; and the passenger, Janet Coronado.
After successfully pulling out the victims, paramedics rushed them to El Centro Regional Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
Meanwhile, the driver of the big rig, 36-year-old Joel De Jesus Murrieta Barraza, appeared unharmed after the incident.
Detectives handling the case continue to investigate exactly how and why the crash happened on Highway 98 in Calexico.
