Jemmy Chavarria, 42, Killed in Los Angeles Hit-and-Run at 84th and Hoover Streets
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 13, 2022) – Jemmy Chavarria was killed after a hit-and-run crash at 84th Street and Hoover Street in South Los Angeles.
Police identified the 42-year-old man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place last month on February 26.
The incident happened when Jemmy Chavarria, his wife and child were crossing 84th Street near the intersection with Hoover Street, in South Los Angeles.
At the same time, a gray sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed north on Hoover. The car went into the southbound lanes toward the family of three in a marked crosswalk.
Speeding Driver Hits Man, Flees Scene
Police said the father pushed his wife and baby out of the way before the vehicle struck him. He sustained serious injuries as a result of the accident.
Paramedics rushed the pedestrian to a hospital, where he died. The KTLA News and FOX 11 News wrote that the accident occurred at around 7:15 p.m.
Meanwhile, police affirmed that the speeding driver did not stop to help the man and fled northbound on Hoover. They described the car as possibly a Nissan Altima missing its right front hubcap.
Officers are still searching for the hit-and-run suspect who left Jemmy Chavarria in the roadway. Family members set up a GoFundMe page to help cover his funeral expenses.
The South Los Angeles hit-and-run crash is still under investigation. Anyone with information can call the police at 323-421-2500.
