Jerry Hodges, 48, Killed in Riverside DUI Hit-and-Run Crash on Indiana Avenue
RIVERSIDE, CA (July 17, 2022) – A DUI hit-and-run crash near Indiana Avenue and La Sierra Avenue killed Jerry Hodges in Riverside.
The coroner’s office identified the 48-year-old Riverside man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Saturday night.
The incident happened when Jerry Hodges was riding a bicycle crossing north on Indiana Avenue in Riverside. At the same time, a Honda Accord was going east.
For an unknown reason, the car then struck the bicyclist at a high rate of speed near La Sierra Avenue. The Daily Bulletin and My News LA wrote that the accident occurred on July 16 at around 10:10 p.m.
Drunk Driver Hits Bicyclist, Flees Scene
Paramedics arrived at the scene and found the rider down on the ground. He ended up suffering from serious injuries as a result of the wreck.
Medical personnel rushed the victim to the Riverside Community Hospital, where he died. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the driver did not stop to render aid to the cyclist and fled the area.
Officers located the 40-year-old Corona man driving the Honda with the help of witnesses. They determined he was under the influence of alcohol when he hit the bicyclist.
Police soon arrested the motorist who left Jerry Hodges on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run with injury. The Riverside DUI hit-and-run crash is still under investigation.
