Jim Hayes, 62, Killed in Shell Beach Hit-and-Run Crash on Highway 101
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, CA (April 6, 2021) – Jim Hayes was killed after a suspected hit-and-run crash along Highway 101 near Shell Beach.
The California Highway Patrol identified the 62-year-old Avila Beach man as the victim of the fatal accident which occurred last month.
The incident happened on March 23 when Jim Hayes was riding a motorcycle southbound on Highway 101 near Shell Beach.
Driver Hits Motorcyclist Near Avila Beach, Flees Scene
CHP said for an unknown reason a vehicle struck the motorcyclist, south of Avila Beach Drive. According to the KSBY News and Cal Coast Times, the wreck took place shortly after 6 p.m.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded to the scene and found Jim Hayes left lying on the ground as a result of the collision. He sustained head and leg injuries upon impact.
Medical personnel rushed him to a hospital where he died on April 3. Meanwhile, officers believed that the driver who hit the rider did not stop to render aid and fled the area.
