Joan McKee, 71, Killed in Corona Crash on 91 Freeway Near Main Street
CORONA, CA (April 18, 2021) – A DUI crash along the 91 Freeway killed Joan McKee in Corona on Saturday.
The Riverside County Coroner’s Office identified the 71-year-old Huntington Beach woman as the victim of the fatal wreck on April 17.
The incident began when Joan McKee was riding as a passenger in a Chrysler Voyager that was going east on the 91 Freeway, west of Main Street, in Corona.
At the same time, a Ford Windstar was driving erratically and at a high rate of speed in the eastbound lanes. The Ford then slammed into the rear of the Chrysler, causing a chain-reaction crash with four more vehicles.
Intoxicated Speeding Driver Causes 6-Vehicle Collision
The California Highway Patrol said the Voyager spun out of control upon impact. Both the male driver of the minivan and Joan McKee ended up ejected from their car.
Firefighters along with the paramedics responded and pronounced McKee dead at the scene. The Orange County Register and My News LA reported the accident at about 5:50 p.m.
Medical personnel rushed the man from the Chrysler to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries. They also transported the speeding motorist and another person with minor wounds.
Meanwhile, CHP determined that the man operating the Windstar was under the influence when the wreck happened. Authorities soon arrested him on suspicion of homicide and driving while intoxicated.
The tragic Corona DUI crash is still under investigation.
