John Matias Bicycle Accident Rancho Cordova Zinfandel Drive

John Matias, 46, Killed in Rancho Cordova Bicycle Crash on Zinfandel Drive

RANCHO CORDOVA, CA (January 2, 2022) – John Matias was killed after a bicycle crash on Zinfandel Drive in Rancho Cordova.

The coroner’s office identified the 46-year-old Mather man as the victim of the fatal collision which took place on Saturday evening.

The incident happened when John Anthony Matias was riding a bicycle south on Zinfandel Drive in Rancho Cordova. A vehicle was traveling the same direction in the far right lane at the time.

Bicyclist Hit by Vehicle

Police said the driver then struck the bicyclist crossing the road, just south of International Drive. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and then found the rider down on the ground.

John Matias sustained serious injuries as a result of the Rancho Cordova crash. Medical personnel soon pronounced him dead at the scene.

The Sacramento Bee and KCRA News wrote that the accident occurred on New Year’s Day, January 1, shortly after 7 p.m. The cause of the Rancho Cordova bicycle collision is still under investigation.

Meanwhile, police affirmed that the motorist stopped and stayed at the site after hitting the cyclist. Anyone with information can call the police at (916) 875-9623.
