Jorge Augustin, 29, ID’d as Suspect in Fatal Corona DUI Crash on 15 Freeway
CORONA, CA (February 14, 2022) – Authorities detained Jorge Augustin after a fatal DUI crash on the 15 Freeway in Corona.
The California Highway Patrol determined that the 29-year-old man was under the influence when the wreck took place on Saturday.
The incident began when Jorge Anival Gomez Augustin was driving a Mercedes-Benz E-350 north on the 15 Freeway in Corona. He then swerved across the roadway in an attempt to get to the Weirick Road exit.
In the process, his Mercedes slammed into the rear of a Honda CRV traveling ahead of him. CHP said both cars went off of the road, south of the Weirick off-ramp.
1 Killed in Wreck
The vehicles plunged down an embankment and across the off-ramp lanes. Firefighters along with the paramedics arrived and pronounced the driver of the Honda dead at the scene.
The name of the deceased victim has not been yet released pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, CHP arrested Jorge Augustin on suspicion of murder and DUI resulting in death following the crash.
They booked him into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside without bail. The Riverside County News Source and My News LA wrote that the accident happened on February 12 at around 3:05 a.m.
