Jorge Cardenas, 30, Kills Passenger in Modesto DUI Crash on Oakdale Road
MODESTO, CA (June 24, 2021) – Authorities placed Jorge Cardenas under arrest after a fatal DUI crash on Oakdale Road in Modesto.
Police determined that the 30-year-old Turlock man was under the influence when the wreck took place on Thursday.
The incident happened when Jorge Cardenas was driving a 4-door sedan at a high rate of speed north on Oakdale Road in Modesto. At the same time, a pickup truck was going south.
Police said the speeding driver lost control of the car and veered into the southbound lanes. In the process, he hit the other vehicle near Scenic Drive and Wylie Drive.

The passenger of the sedan, 33-year-old Turlock resident Erika Navarro, died at the scene. Jorge Cardenas sustained moderate injuries as a result of the Modesto crash.
Paramedics took him to a hospital for treatment. Reports indicated that Jorge Cardenas will be booked on charges including homicide, DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Meanwhile, medical personnel treated the operator of the pickup truck for minor wounds. The Modesto Bee and FOX 40 News wrote that the accident occurred at about 2 a.m.
The DUI crash is still under investigation.
