Jose and Antonio Catarino-Reyes ID’d as Suspects in Bakersfield Hit-and-Run
BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 18, 2021) – Officers detained Jose Catarino-Reyes and Antonio Catarino-Reyes after a hit-and-run crash in Bakersfield.
Police identified the Madera men as the suspects in the wreck which took place on Tuesday. It happened in the evening of November 16.
The incident began when 19-year-old Jose Catarino-Reyes was driving a Chevrolet Silverado north on 21st Street in Bakersfield. He was traveling with 25-year-old Antonio Catarino-Reyes at the time.
He failed to slow for the traffic and slammed into a car at the intersection with Union Avenue. Police said at least eight more vehicles ended up hit in the process.
2 Injured in Car Crash
The Bakersfield Now and Kern Golden Empire wrote that one of the cars involved caught fire due to the impact. A woman inside the burning vehicle sustained major injuries as a result of the collision.
Paramedics rushed her to a hospital and listed her in critical condition. Medical personnel at the site provided treatment to another patient who survived with minor wounds.
The reports did not disclose the names of the victims. Meanwhile, police affirmed that the two men did not stop to render aid and fled the scene of the crash.
Officers soon arrested Jose Catarino-Reyes for felony hit-and-run and driving without a driver’s license. His brother faces charges of accessory to felony hit-and-run and driving without a driver’s license.
Police soon booked them into the Kern County Jail. They added that speed played a role in the wreck. The Bakersfield hit-and-run is still under investigation.
