Jose Hernandez-Alfaro, 33, ID’d as Suspect in Alameda Fatal DUI Crash
ALAMEDA, CA (September 8, 2021) – Authorities detained Jose Hernandez-Alfaro after a fatal DUI crash in the city of Alameda.
Police determined that the 33-year-old man was under the influence of alcohol when the collision took place on Monday night.
The incident began when Jose Hernandez-Alfaro was driving a Toyota Corolla on Cambridge Drive in Alameda. At the same time, a GMC pickup was going west on Fernside Boulevard.
Police said Jose Hernandez-Alfaro sped through the stop sign at the intersection and then broadsided the truck. The GMC went off the road and into a front porch of an unoccupied house.
Nickolas Bianchi, 27, Killed in Car Crash
The driver of the pickup, 27-year-old Alameda resident Nickolas Bianchi, died at the scene. A male passenger from the same car ended up with serious injuries as a result of the accident.
Paramedics rushed the wounded victim to a local hospital for treatment. The East Bay Times and KTVU News wrote that the wreck occurred on September 6 shortly after 8 p.m.
Meanwhile, Jose Hernandez-Alfaro sustained non-life-threatening injuries following the crash. Police arrested him on suspicion of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter in lieu of a $300,000 bail.
