Juan Cortez, 20; and Anthony Rodriguez, 21, Injured in Diamond Bar Fatal Car Crash
DIAMOND BAR, CA (July 31, 2021) – A fatal crash injured Juan Cortez and Anthony Rodriguez on the 60 Freeway in Diamond Bar.
The California Highway Patrol identified the men as two of the three victims in the collision which took place on Saturday.
The incident began when their Honda Accord became disabled for an unknown reason in the carpool lane of the eastbound 60 freeway.
CHP said 21-year-old La Puente resident Anthony Rodriguez, was the driver of the car at the time of the Diamond Bar crash. Juan Cortez, 20, of Los Angeles was one of his two passengers.
A Nissan Armada traveling at an unsafe speed approached and then hit the stalled Honda. The Accord rolled over due to the impact, just east of Grand Avenue.
Man Killed in Collision on 60 Freeway
The KTLA News and My News LA wrote that the third man riding the overturned Honda ended up pinned inside and died. The accident occurred at around 3 a.m.
Anthony Rodriguez and the driver of the Nissan, 44-year-old Christian Lucero, suffered major injuries. Juan Cortez sustained moderate injuries as a result of the Diamond Bar crash.
Paramedics rushed the surviving occupants of the Accord to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center. Both were outside the Honda when the Nissan struck them.
Medical personnel also took Christian Lucero for treatment. Meanwhile, CHP forced the eastbound lanes of the 60 freeway to shut down for a time following the wreck.
